I closed on my house on 15 April 1999 and tried to move in that day. I had gotten a big truck trailer from my boss for a week and had a couple of folks I know load it up while I was working that week. On that Friday afternoon and Saturday, I finished packing the trailer. On Sunday I drove from Jemison. Alabama to White Springs, Florida. On Monday about 10 AM we closed on the house, it was mine.
I drove the truck and trailer to my house and used local help to assist me in unloading the trailer. Then Mike Price happened. Mind you I hadn’t yet spent a night in my new house and Mike threatened to arrest me for parking my truck where I was blocking half of Mill Street. At one point in the discussion he actually got out his handcuffs, he was Chief of Police by the way. I told him he could arrest me if he could show me the law or municipal ordinance that says it was illegal for me to block half of Mill Street to unload my trailer to move my stuff into my new house. Luckily for me he decided to go look for a law or ordinance. He never returned.
That was my introduction to White Springs. I was threatened with arrest not three hours since I had closed on my house. Instead of someone bringing me a casserole as a welcome gift I got an arrest threat. It only got worse from there.
To be continued…..
