As you can see from Tommie Jone’s resume, White Springs could not be luckier than to have someone with his set of skills. That is something Joe and I had never questioned and you can see that from our previous writings on the blog. He has a dynamic personality as well and and we were impressed with him early on. Like Joe said, we never thought of Tommie as being black just that he was a really nice person that we felt would be great for White Springs.
And although Joe has been blamed for some of my writings on this issue, all of my articles are signed with my name “Karin for the blog”. My biggest assessment of anyone is whether they are honest. What someone has done in the past has never bothered me if I feel they have something to offer and while some companies were hiring Black’s to fill a quota, I actually hired one that I felt would help my department because color was not something which was important to me. It was all about their skill set. Color of one’s skin, however, the color of one’s skin seems to be very important to people like Nicole Williams and Tonja Brown, which I cannot understand in the 21st Century that we are basing who we hire or elect based on the color of their skin rather than what they may do for us.
By the way concerned advocate the White Springs Application which is completed or to be completed by all employees asks “Have you ever been convicted of a felony or a first Degree Misdemeanor” and “Have you ever plead Nolo Contendere or plead guilty to a felony or a 1st degree misdemeanor.” Now I realize you are a police officer but seriously there were more than one of these latter items for which he would have had to have plead guilty to. But that does not even matter. All Joe and I contended is that it would have shown great honesty and integrity for a candidate to say, “I made a lot of mistakes when I was young, but I have changed and this is what I have done” Most people don’t care what someone may have done when they are young unless you are a republican like Kavanaugh or Trump. But I do care how someone handles themselves today and that is not a character assignation but rather an opinion of how I feel when someone does not tell the truth. We have had some real bad luck in the past on our choices of Managers and we just didn’t want it to happen again. We are lucky to have Tommie’s skill sets and we wish the Town the best of luck because the Town needs it.
Tommie with his experience will do well for White Springs if he adds honesty and integrity to his plate and treats all people fairly as he once told us he would instead of being a racist like his relative Nicole Williams. This is my opinion.
