|President Donald Trump warned Americans not to let down their guard Tuesday as Hurricane Dorian makes its northern trek, adding crews are being sent to help the Bahamas, where the hurricane stalled as a Category 5 storm for several hours Monday.
“The U.S. may be getting a little bit lucky with respect to Hurricane Dorian, but please don’t let down your guard,” Trump tweeted. “As it heads up the coast, lots of very bad and unpredictable things can happen! On the other hand, the Bahamas have been devastated. We are sending crews to help!”
The United States has sent its Disaster Assistance Response Team to the Bahamas, where at least five people were killed in the massive storm, according to the U.S. Agency for International Development, reports The Hill.
The team is working with local authorities in the Bahamas, as well as humanitarian organizations and others. The agency is also gathering supplies such as chainsaws, plastic sheeting, hygiene kits, and more for the rescue effort.
