JUNE 24TH INTERVIEW (S)

Prior to Today’s interviews, one of the Town Manager Applicant’s withdrew his bid to interview for the Town Manager position. Mr. Evett advised Helen Miller how beautifully kept up the streets were and he loved the signage and lighting. However, the reason for his withdrawal is the fact that our Town has had so many lawsuits and of course there is the matter of our blog according to Mayor Helen Miller and she stated that it was the reasons our town had difficulty in having Town Managers apply previously. We know that the blog is not the main reason because some of these managers contacted us to tell us their disgust in the manner in which they were treated at interviews.

Then there was Bill Lawrence, the best manager we could have who initially thought th problems related to some good ole boy situation and after being here for a few months, told us that unfortunately our blog was right and it was far worse than what he had thought. He of course left as soon as he was offered another job and he did not leave because of our blog but because of Helen Miller and the manner in which the Council treated him.Prior to Today’s interviews, one of the Town Manager Applicant’s withdrew his bid to interview for the Town Manager position.

Now today’s interviews could only be described as a “cluster%&#*”. Upon Mayor Miller entering the premises at the Women’s Community Center, Councilwoman Rivers began her attack. First of all she asked Mayor Miller who decided on the Women’s Club for interviews to which Mayor Miller responded that she did. Then Rivers went on and on about how the recorder would not work, how it could have been done on a Thursday so Scenecia Williams could have run the recorder at Town Hall. Mayor Miller had worked on connecting all of the applicants in day and time slots and on her behalf, You can’t demand that all interviewees can come on a specific day.

All this time, the Candidate with the most experience was sitting in the room awaiting his interview.

Next Anita Rivers asked who made up the evaluation sheet to which Mayor Miller replied that she had. The arguments continued about what was wrong with the evaluation sheet. It seemed like it was too cumbersome for some, that each of the councilors had their own ideas of what they wished to ask, that it seemed like the form was for an evaluation of an employee who was already working for the Town. Anita Rivers made a motion to remove the evaluation form and Councilman Tom Moore seconded it only for the reason of having a discussion.

Mayor Miller explained that we have always had evaluations and after discussing the various topics, CM Moore said the first ten questions could assist him and everyone else to know what they are seeking. He tried to work the form in as a guideline but CW Rivers would not budge. Instead she stated she wished it removed.

Mayor Miller said the reason this was done was because we have three new councilors and that we have always used the evaluation. Then CW Nikki Williams piped up and said, “Well where is that evaluation?” Of course the information was not there. And the councilwomen complained that they had no input and that Mayor Miller did it on her own.

Then there were comments about how none of the councilors had seen the form prior to just at this interview. Nikki Williams said she didn’t know if we were at a meeting or an interview.

The most amazing comments made were two by Interim Town Manager/Consultant Tommie Jones. First he said that the form should not probably be used because it favored him. Then he stated that Mayor Miller had given him the evaluation a couple of months ago (We also know this because Jones said he worked up the evaluation, then took that statement back, while Mayor Miller covered it up). Mayor Miller asked why he did not give copies to the other councilors. He said based on being a consultant that it was up to Mayor Miller and her attorney. And I, Karin, said, he is a consultant and should not be making decisions anyway. Then Nikki Williams said “Mrs. Griffin, if you do not remain silent, you will be removed”.

The motion went through that the evaluation form would not be used. Prior year’s evaluations used a number system to rate the candidates which is a perfect example for government rather than just random’ deciding one person may be the best and finding out they are not. But that numbering system determined who the best hire would be but of course Anita Rivers and Nikki Williams know more than those who have had prior experience. Our new Councilwoman said that one of the candidates did not have prior experience referring to Joe Griffin, but the truth is, neither did Tommie Jones and Jones has less experience in the way of knowledge and law than Griffin.

Mr. Emrich was the first candidate to stand up for his interview. He withdrew his application for Town Manager on the basis that by allowing all candidates to listen to other candidates is totally unprofessional and it has not happened to him in the last 30 years of interviews and he walked out.

Frankly I was surprised he did not consider the arguing among councilors being unprofessional and it made me wonder if that happened as an act to get Emrich to concede. I have never seen anything like it in my lifetime. And if all of this was not an act, it seems that Mayor Miller is in a bit of trouble. Mayor Miller has done everything for Anita Rivers, even helping her go after Stacy Tebo for discrimination (but forgot retaliation).

Miller stood up for Nikki Williams and Anita Rivers even though they put her in the Befaithful debacle which cost our town money and she has worked for them to have prime positions throughout. Miller also held Tommie Jone’s hand and now it appears he is slapping the hand that fed him. You be the judge of this but if this meeting told Joe and I anything, it was how screwed up this town is and if the Journal reports it, I am certain outsiders couldn’t even imagine what we tell you to be true. In any event, Joe withdrew his application. He was hoping that Emrich would have stuck in there and been hired, but he knew that Tommie Jones was the shoe in and he decided that Helen Miller deserved her council and Tommie Jones and why waste his time, Even if all he would have recited was Jones’ lies, they would have ignored Joe.

This should be an interesting term, three new council women, two of which know it all; a Mayor who gets slapped in the face publically by the three and the Town Manager who she groomed, and now we have a multiple felon, first degree misdemeanor Town Manager, who remains a consultant. People, just wait, The state will take us over because there is not an honest person among them except possibly Jacqueline Williams.

Karin for the blog.

Thanks for the update.Wow.Interesting.
