Congratulations Dr. Helen Miller as a shining example of local advocacy in action

Dr. Helen Miller, Mayor of White Springs was awarded the 2019 Home Rule Hero Award by Amber Hughes, Legislative Advocte for the Florida League of Cities.  She was recognized for her tireless efforts to protect the Home Rule powers of Florida’s municipalities and advance the League’s legislative agenda during the 2019 legislative session.

In accordance with the Jasper News Article, Director Scott Dudley said in a release “Mayor Miller is one of our biggest advocate for municipal issues and she is a shining example of local advocacy in action.   Miller is a member of the Suwannee River Leage of Cities Board of Directors and was it’s former president and recipient of its Municipal Official of the Year Award.  She continues to serve on the Utilities Natural Resources and Public Works Legislation policy committe of the Florida League of Cities and during the 2018-2019 Legislative Session served as its Chair.

It was also stated that Miller is a tireless advocate for children and their families and the important role education plays in developing opportunities for all children.  She recently incorporated “The Project HOPE, Inc.” to  address these important issues.   Project HOPE is currently partnering with the State and Local Agencies and individuals to deliver STEM in th Park, a seminar camp for youth in the greater White Springs area.
