The RHATT Pack Watch Day 278

The RHATT Pack Watch

Day 278

Today is Monday, January 28th, Day 278 of the Rhatt Pack Watch.

The Suwannee has finally begun to recede from flood stage.  However, the ground remains saturated and low lying and marshy areas throughout the Town are covered with surface water.  Of course, there are both positive and negative aspects associated with these conditions.
On the positive side, not having a drought will assure that fields and forests have lower risks of fires.  It also means that crops will be able to draw more of their water needs from natural sources rather than water pumped from the Florida aquifer.
On the negative side, there’s a tremendous amount of stagnant and potentially contaminated surface water that can and will cause challenges for a long time to come.  For instance, as the “Watch” has reported previously, both the White Springs water distribution system and the wastewater collection system are broken and highly sensitive to high ground water.  Your drinking water can be contaminated easily by Fecal coliform from the Town’s broken wastewater system or by Escherichia coliform (i.e. E.coli, a coliform from recent surface water flooding.
Coliform are bacteria present in the digestive tracts of all animals, including humans, and are found in their waste products.  However, one strain of E.coli – 0157:H7 – is particularly dangerous and has been associated with cattle feedlots, poultry and swine farming and municipal wastewater treatment plant spills.    All of these sources are present in and around White Springs.
The 0157:H7 E.coli strain causes abdominal cramps, vomiting, and bloody diarrhea, leading to fever, bleeding, kidney failure, confusions, seizures and death.  In addition, stagnant surface water is susceptible to the mosquito breeding cycle which is on the order of three days.  When the Town experiences a couple of days of warmer weather and White Springs had plenty of warm days this Winter, the mosquitoes out there are doing their breeding thing.

One of the legitimate activities that Local Option Fuel Tax revenues can be expended upon is resolving roadside drainage problems.  Back in the early 1900’s residents knew and understood the hazards of having stagnant surface water anywhere in or near the Town.  ?They understood stagnant surface water as breeding grounds for sickness and disease.  As a result White Springs developed and maintained a very sophisticated system of drainage ditches and culverts to carry rain and other surface water away to the Suwannee River.  Unfortunately, for current residents, decades of neglect due to Poor Town Management and limited financial resources have allowed this drainage system to breakdown and become useless.  However, there no longer is an excuse for the Town to continue placing every resident at risk for disease and sickness from undrained stagnant surface Water.

The Town just spent over $60,000 to purchase a useless new excavator that wasn’t needed.  Other than a phony escapade by Mindless ‘Splain it to me’ Vice Mayor Tanja to attempt to justify its purchase, the excavator has done virtually nothing.  It’s time to get “Cousin” Ray off his butt and take both the old and his new excavator out and start fixing the Town’s drainage system before the 0157:h7 E. coli strain infects the Town’s drinking water distribution system or Zika or some other insect borne disease hits White Springs when Spring and Summer weather arrives.  An even smarter approach would be for the Ratt’s ‘Out of Towner’ Lapdog “Just keep paying me’ Tebow to get out of her office and drag her but up to Jasper and beg the County, (that’s talk to Louie Goodin) to help with the County’s more appropriate GradAll equipment.  In either event, fix the drainage system NOW.

White Springs your time to retake Town Hall and get the Town back on track is just around the corner.  Recruit TWO honest, competent and hard working Candidates to replace the Red-face Ratt and the “Gang” member Mindless ‘Splain it to me’ Tanja.  on electikn day, be certain to Vote.

Remove Two of the Sources of White Springs decline, Mindless and the Ratt.  It’s Day 278 and the Red-face Ratt hasn’t resigned yet.  The Rhatt Pack Watch continues!
